SLO 512 Personal Existential Transformation in a Sports Career

Faculty: Dr. Klemen Kobal (Profile)

ABOUT THE COURSE

The course explores the personal and identity transformation of an athlete through key existential transitions, such as injury, defeat, loss of form or the end of a career. It connects the
philosophical foundations of transformation (Frankl, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche) with a narrative and therapeutic understanding of identity reconstruction, when the athlete again seeks meaning
beyond the result and role. The student develops the ability to recognize moments in which the athlete encounters his vulnerability, loss and the possibility of growth, and learns how
therapeutic dialogue becomes a space for safe transformation. Special emphasis is placed on the reflection of the personal development of the therapist, who, while accompanying others,
goes through his own transformations. The course enables understanding of how an existential break can become the beginning of a more whole, authentic and meaningfully oriented life path.
