the flexibility of designing your own curriculum

Academic Overview

The Graduate Theological Foundation (GTF) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational institution that offers students the opportunity to complete coursework directly through the GTF in the form of online, distance or on-site study. The GTF also identifies and endorses programs and venues throughout the U.S. and abroad where students may complete the academic requirements of their degree program. Students of the GTF enjoy the flexibility of designing their own curriculum based on their preference of degree specialization, venue location, course delivery method, and time and financial commitment. Students work at their own pace within the timeframe of their degree programs.

Degrees are offered at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Both professional level (praxis-oriented) and academic level (research-oriented) graduate degrees are offered at the GTF.

Professional degrees are oriented toward praxis in the relevant field of study with an emphasis placed upon topical issues, problem-solving agendas and mechanisms for implementation strategies. The exit project may be presented through the use of various media such as workbooks and manuals, videos, CD-ROMs, websites and DVDs. The end product is evaluated by the faculty. No oral defense is required.

Academic degrees are research-oriented and based upon an information retrieval and utilization agenda requiring the use of the GTF’s Online Research Library or comparable physical research library. The end product is a master’s or doctoral thesis written under faculty supervision and endorsed by the supervisor. A defense is required for the doctoral thesis.

Certificate Programs are graduate-level, non-degree programs designed for ministry/social service professionals seeking to increase their knowledge and competency in a specific area of study.  Each certificate requires completion of an online curriculum tailored to the student’s specific interests and needs.  Whether for personal enrichment or professional enhancement, GTF certificate programs provide a flexible and affordable opportunity for in-depth, specialized graduate study.

Professional Bachelors Degrees

BACHELORS DEGREES

The GTF undergraduate degree-completion program allows students to maintain their professional positions while completing a bachelor’s degree in one of three areas: religious education, theology, or sacred music. Specialized degree tracks are available for some degree programs to allow focused study in a particular area. A range of study options is also available to help students craft their own educational study plan.

The GTF awards professional baccalaureate degrees, the Bachelor of Religious Education, Bachelor of Theology and Bachelor of Sacred Music, which are built upon practical skills needed to function professionally within the student’s chosen field. The GTF makes a distinction between a professional baccalaureate degree and a liberal arts degree. While a liberal arts education attempts to provide a broad foundation of general studies, the professional degree provides a concentration in practical skills which may be exercised in the student’s profession.
