Herbert Levine, Ph.D.

Herbert Levine is Professor of Jewish Spirituality specializing in Spirituality of the Psalms and, more broadly, a student and practitioner of the relationship between poetry and spirituality. Dr. Levine is author of Sing Unto God a New Song: A Contemporary Reading of the Psalms (1995); two books of bi-lingual Hebrew and English poetry, Words for Blessing the World (2017), & An Added Soul: Poems for a New Old Religion (2020); and a prayer book:  Blessed Are You, Wondrous Universe: A Siddur for Seekers (2025). He was educated at Harvard College and at Princeton University, where he earned his Ph.D. in English and American Literature. Dr. Levine is also a translator, with Rabbi Reena Spicehandler, of Hebrew stories and poems by Mendele Mother Seforim, Shmuel Yosef Agnon and Elisheva Bukhovski.
