Sister Carole Riley, CDP, Ph.D.
Sister Carole Riley, CDP, Ph.D. is Visiting Professor of Music and Spirituality. She was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and was trained in piano performance and music education receiving both a B.S.M.Ed, M.M., and M.A. from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh where she taught until 2017. Dr. Riley entered the international community of the Sisters of Divine Providence and taught for several years before accepting a faculty appointment at her alma mater where she received the Presidential Award as a distinguished alumna for community service leadership.
She taught with Rev Adrian Van Kaam, C.S.Sp at the Institute for Formative Spirituality where she served as Executive Director while holding a full professorship at the Mary Pappert School of Music. As executive director and professor, she taught internationally traveling to eight African countries, to the Philippines, Brazil, Korea, Europe, and most of the United States teaching spirituality and music.
Dr. Riley served as Director of Graduate Studies and assistant dean of the Mary Pappert School of Music directing dissertations, thesis, and projects through the Institute for Spirituality.
Early in her ministry, Sr. Carole was trained in spiritual direction ministry, and religious formation service receiving the Emil Penet Award from the National Religious Formation Conference for her development of a mentoring model of formation. She is a licensed professional counselor in West Virginia and founded the West Virginia Institute for Spirituality in 1999 where she currently directs a training program for spiritual directors which is also online.
At the retreat center, Dr. Riley leads the Ignatian 30-day retreat experience, teaches online spirituality classes and educational offerings which are available through St. Paul’s communication, and Amazon audio.
