Introduction to Christian Process Theology

Faculty: Ann Kline, BCC (Profile)

ABOUT THE COURSE

This course offers an introduction to the distinctive vision of process-relational theology and its implications for Christian thought and practice. Drawing on foundational and contemporary process theologians, students will explore a relational understanding of reality in which God, humanity, and the more-than-human world exist in dynamic interconnection and ongoing becoming. Particular attention will be given to process perspectives on the nature and power of God, human existence, Jesus Christ, scripture and revelation, science and ethics, and the life and ministry of the church. Students will engage both classic formulations of process theology and more recent developments, considering how this tradition responds to enduring theological questions as well as contemporary challenges. Through weekly critical reflection, individual conversation with the professor, and a final integrative essay, students will be encouraged not only to understand process theology but also to evaluate its claims and articulate their own developing theological perspective.
