Tim Allen is Professor of Humanities at Strayer University where he teaches Humanities, American History and World Religions. He is also pastor of Damascus Church in Chapel Hill, NC. He is an ordained minister and currently holds standing in the United Church of Christ. He has served in Baptist and United Church of Christ congregations in the capacity of minister of music/youth and pastor and has twenty-five years of ministerial experience. He received his BA in Religious Studies from the University of South Carolina; the M.Div. with Languages from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary; the MA in Religious Studies (ancient Mediterranean Religions) from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill; and the PhD in Theological Studies (focus on early American Religion) from the Graduate Theological Foundation where he was honored as a Macquarrie Fellow. Dr. Allen has taught religion at the community college and university level since 1993 and taught World Religions online for Axia College of the University of Phoenix for several years. In 2004, Dr. Allen received the Excellence in Teaching Award from Randolph Community College and he was also awarded the Bronze Award for Teaching Excellence from Strayer University. In 2007 he was invited to attend the Oxford Round Table conference on “The Separation of Church and State.” An avid writer, his publications cover a broad gamut of studies from devotion, Sunday School curricula, pastoral theology, and Bible study to American religious history.
